A new book at the publishers!
Updated: Mar 30
At last! After a couple of years of part-time research and writing, I have finished my latest book 'The Crimes of Dr Gramshaw'. The text is now with my publishers, Matador, and with luck it will be out by the Autumn. I've already pencilled in a launch event at my local library in Dringhouses during the Big City Read this year, so fingers crossed that we get through production and publication on time. Matador are brilliantly efficient so all should be well.
It was a great experience doing the research for this book. There was so much to be found in the British Newspaper Archive (online - what would we do without the internet?) where lots of different papers covered the doctor's life and crimes. And there were clues to the sometimes-tragic consequences of his crimes for his family. I also went to the British Library at Boston Spa for the first time, to look at an original copy of the Easingwold Advertiser and Weekly News which had coverage of Dr G's funeral when no other paper had! You can't beat the local paper for such fantastic detail.
